your dream, your baby
/At my first job, I heard two of the most supportive managers I've ever had say "that's your baby". Dominic and Esmond were, then, referring to Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) projects. Today, I thank them for the far-reaching impact of their encouraging management style and for the analogy which I now tie to my business idea.
All of my life I've been the 'safe', 'do what's most likely to earn money without killing yourself and that which allows you to sleep at night'. One day, though, I had had enough. I'm far too passionate about too many things to waste away as a workaholic for someone else's cause. I always knew I'd do my own thing, but I kept saying 'when I'm older'. It's now hit me - older is here and now! Where did the time go?!
My God has blessed me by keeping that spark present through every stage of my life, but right now I'm so on fire for 'cleaning house' and starting my business, that I will not accept advice like "don't!", "maybe it's the wrong time" or "you have no money" anymore. Just like having a baby - it'll never be "the right time" except in my heart. Except in yours! There comes a time when you get that 'now or never' urgency. Ask yourself: When you're in your rocker at 79 looking back at life, will you be happy you pursued your dream? OR Will you wonder 'what if'?
You wouldn't let someone kill your baby. You would fight them with everything you have! Sit down, before your concept becomes a babe in the womb, and think about how far you will go for it. Once you know you will, your baby has been conceived. Now work towards it's birth and protection. Grow it to where it can defend itself.
