Resilience. Admitting when it hurts

Resilience. Admitting when it hurts

Why can’t I say it hurts? I grew up in a "suck it up and wear a smile" culture, but that is not restricted to where I grew up.  It didn't help that dance performances reinforced that message in the physical as well, and that I have been dancing for most of my life.  I truly thought resilience meant being able to smile, breathe and function like a well-adjusted individual, regardless of what happens to you.  I've been through some brutal things and came out smiling because I thought that meant I was no one's victim.
